A second burst water pipe has been detected along Blackburn’s busiest road.

A section of road at the junction between Preston New Road and Montague Street is affected by the latest emergency.

Blackburn with Darwen Roads team are urging people there could be delays to journeys as the water pipe is fixed.

It comes after a weekend of disruption and low water pressure for residents following a burst water pipe on the corner of Revidge Road and Preston New Road.

A four-way traffic management system is causing long delays for drivers in all directions.

United Utilities had said the work had been completed here but the section of road needs to be resurfaced.

The incident on Montague Street was reported last night.

Blackburn with Darwen Roads said: “We have just been informed by United Utilities that there is another burst water main on Preston New Road, Blackburn, at the junction of Montague Street.

“They are fully aware of the works further up the road at Preston New Road/Revidge Road/Billinge End Road and have, therefore, put an accelerated response in place to be off-site by 12pm.

“Temporary traffic lights will be required to enable United Utilities to safely undertake the repair.

“We have requested coordinated manual control of the temporary signals as the impact of both could result in severe delays if queues extend through both sets of works.

“Please be aware of these additional works if you use Preston New Road as part of your daily commute.”
