Plans to convert a stone barn into two separate houses have been submitted to a council.

The barn at Park Farm in Whalley Road, Barrow, is “no longer fit for modern agriculture purposes” according to a design statement.

The barn will be split into two new houses of three bedrooms in one and two bedrooms in the other.

The statement said: “The conversion project is to be undertaken by the applicant, with one of the units for him and the second for his daughter.

“The conversion will take place wholly within the fabric of the existing building and utilise existing openings to serve the newly created habitable spaces within the barn.

“The existing slate roof of the main barn will be inspected and repaired where necessary.

“Access will remain from the A59 and along the existing track, with new dedicated parking spaces provided for each unit adjacent to the principal entrances.”

The statement went on to add existing nature conservation aspects of the existing barn have been properly surveyed and there would be no damaging effect on the landscape qualities of the area.

It added: “The conversion of this barn, at the centre of this long-established farmstead, without the need for significant alteration and no extensions, has little impact on the landscape qualities of the area.”
