Around 1.5million books in Lancashire are sent to landfill each year, a book recycling company has said.
To help bring this number down, WeBuyBooks.co.uk has opened a book recycling bin at its processing facility in Rawtenstall.
The book recycling initiative aims to give pre-loved books a second chance by finding them new homes rather than being thrown away.
Books put in the recycling bin can be sold through WeBuyBooks’ online stores or donated to Lancashire schools and charities.
As they continue to expand, they hope to establish more recycling points across the region.
For books that cannot be sold through digital platforms, they are also creating local outlets to rehome them and ensure they can be enjoyed again.
Managing director Mike Lane said: “We have always strived to be the sustainable option for people to dispose of their unwanted books without going to the local tip.
“By offering our book donation bins, we now have another way to ensure the public can dispose of their books at their convenience in a simple and easy way.”
A percentage of the proceeds from any donated book sales will also be donated to the company’s charity partners in Rawtenstall.
