A scrunched-up letter found in a puddle has inspired a community to help raise funds for a cancer charity.

The letter, written by a Year 6 pupil from Castle Hill School in Todmorden, was posted by the ‘Kindness at the Old Co-operative Society’.

It said an appeal had gone out for donations and the aim was to raise £250 for the school's Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning.

Members of Olive Branch Fostering thought it was such a 'lovely letter' they wanted to help with the worthy cause.

They got in touch with the school and asked if they could contribute in some way.

The letter inspired a community to come together to support an appealAn Olives Branch Fostering spokesperson said: "We found out that the school were trying to reconnect with the local community, having lost contacts and networks after the pandemic, and that this coffee morning was their first attempt at hosting an event like this.

“Acts of kindness and community are close to the heart of Olive Branch and we wanted to provide a helping hand.

“So, we presented Castle Hill Primary School with our donation.

“Being able to chat with youngsters about fostering and foster care was so rewarding and we had a great chat about why some children are fostered, along with detailed plans on their coffee morning, including what they are baking.”

Donations from Coffee Mornings make a huge difference, helping Macmillan continue their services so people can find their best way through their cancer journey, from the moment they're diagnosed, through treatment and beyond.
