A man says the stigma of ‘hair pieces’ is a thing of the past as he revealed how more and more people are turning to him for a solution to their hair loss woes.
Joshua Holley runs ‘Josh Hair Systems’ which has a ‘semi-permanent solution’ for people with receding hairlines or who have lost their hair completely.
The head is shaved and a hairpiece is glued on with extra strong adhesive in a process that can last up to six months.
He works from a barbers on Mitton Road Business Park in Whalley and also gets called out to people’s homes and offices across the region.
Josh said: “I have to say there has always been a stigma with hair pieces but what we do is completely different.
“I think people still have that perception of toupees and sensing people will notice or they will fly off.
“Ours is what is says – semi-permanent – and we pride ourselves in that.
“They can stay in place for up to six months because the adhesive is so strong. But they require maintenance every three to four weeks during which I take it off and clean their scalp and the system and then reapply it. This is something they can also do at home.
“I have one man who plays football four times a week and another who is a boxer.
“People go swimming and there are no issues for them.
“Yes, someone who is close to you and knows you will notice the difference but nobody else will.”
Prices range from £495 to £749 depending on the severity of hair loss and can take a few hours to complete.
The 34-year-old runs his business primarily by sharing examples of his work on social media and one of his clients was recently interviewed on BBC Radio 2.
Josh, from Barrowford, said he was inspired to help others after losing his own hair at a young age.
“I know what people will be going through. I want to help men like myself regain their confidence after struggling with hair loss.
“For years, I battled this issue until I found a semi-permanent solution and now I wear one myself. The transformation I’ve seen in hundreds of men, both locally and from afar, has been life-changing.
“Losing your hair can really knock your confidence.
“I have had customers who are reduced to tears once they see the transformation. It affects their lives in a positive way.
“I do insist that anyone who is thinking of having a transplant just considers us first.”
He revealed some people had come to him after a transplant did not have the desired effect.
He added: “We have a private room but sometimes people may not want to come in.
“There is still a lot of misunderstanding but when we have gone through the process more and more people are open to it.
“We have a lot of satisfied customers who wish they had come here first. I honestly do feel good having helped people and seeing the positive changes.”
