A Darwen eatery has won a prestigious Tripadvisor Award – ranking it in the top 10% of listings worldwide.

Dolly’s Bar and Grill, on Bolton Road, has won the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award 2024.

Owner Suzanne Halliwell said: “People have been really good to us and we’re delighted.

“It’s all based on customer feedback so we’re really happy with it.

“We have a very small team, but they go out of their way to be amazing to all our customers.

“It’s all about the customer service and the fantastic team that we’ve got here.”

Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards celebrate destinations, hotels and restaurants with consistently great reviews over the last year, making the awards determined by people’s real experiences and opinions.

Dolly’s has been operating in Darwen since 2010 and was taken over by Suzanne five years ago – just six weeks before the coronavirus lockdown.

Despite the difficulties the hospitality sector has faced in recent years, the bar and grill continues to do well in Darwen – winning the prestigious Tripadvisor award three times.

The eatery transformed from a tearoom into a bar and grill earlier this year and offers brunch, lunch, afternoon teas and Sunday roasts, as well as a full bar and cocktails.

The renovation, along with their new chef Mike McCue, has helped them maintain their popularity.

Mike has transformed the menu, including their new customer favourite the double Cajun burger, though their cheese and onion pie has consistently remained their bestseller.

The bar and grill has also proved a magnet for tourists, with people from Manchester to Australia enjoying their products and customer service.

Additionally, Dolly’s hosts parties, baby showers, weddings and end-of-life celebrations.

Their next celebration, however, will be for their staff.

In terms of how the team are going to celebrate, Suzanne said: “I’m going to make sure the staff get the reward they deserve.”
