A family has launched an appeal to help bring home a Burnley man who broke his hip in a fall while on holiday.

Geoff Seedall, 69, tripped in Egypt and injured himself and the family has now been informed to fly him home on a stretcher costs around £40,000. This is despite Geoff being insured.

The grandad had landed in Sharm El-Sheikh on September 14 for a two-week holiday with daughter Helen, son-in-law, David and grandchildren Rayan and Lauren.

But he suffered a fall on September 20 and has spent the past 10 days in hospital.

A GoFundMe appeal has raised nearly £2,000 and the family is now appealing to the wider public for help. They have been told by the insurance company that they must pay up front then ‘re-claim the costs’, something daughter-in law Kelly called ‘scandalous’

Kelly said: “He is currently in hospital there, and because of the specialist care he needs, he cannot have his operation in Egypt and needs to be flown home to the UK as soon as possible.

“Along with a broken hip, Geoff also has other medical conditions, including Type 1 Diabetes, and recently, he was diagnosed with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

“Every day he is in the hospital in Egypt, he is deteriorating, and it is so painful for our family to see him this way. Usually, this is where you would look to your travel insurance to fund the cost of paying the medical bills and also fly him home to the UK.”

The family said they been told to pay for the costs upfrontKelly said: “We have been told to pay costs up front and reclaim them. Who has that sort of money?

“The whole point of being insured is that you do not have to worry.

“They do not realise the stress and anguish they are causing us. It is scandalous.

“Believe me when I tell you that the dispute is ongoing; however, because of our time restraints, we fear that Geoffrey will not last long in this hospital if we do not get him home soon.”

Geoff had headed out to Egypt on September 14 and suffered a fall six days into the dream holiday.Kelly added: “Geoffrey is probably the kindest man that I know, and it breaks my heart to hear of him being so confused and upset in this hospital room in so much pain, day after day.

“His love and care for us has always been unwavering, and now it's our turn to show him the same.

“My mother-in-law Eileen is understandably in pieces, watching the love of her life slowly become less and less her husband.”
