This week's pub lies just down the road from Burnley FC's Turf Moor and claims to have the town's "best beer garden".

The Thornton, in Brownside Road, formerly known as the Thornton Arms, serves a mix of food to enjoy from its lakeside beer garden.

Introduce yourself

My name is Annie Henderson and I'm the landlady here alongside my husband, Theo Asimakopoulos.

When did you take over?

We took over early May, we had been looking for a while for someone to take over and we've worked in pubs for a while.

(Image: The Thornton) Why did you take over?

It's quite modern and it's in a nice area, we met the locals beforehand who seemed really nice.

It was quite a big step as we moved from North Lincolnshire, so quite a way, but I'm originally from Lancashire so we settled in quite well.

What changes did you make?

We changed the menu slightly and we'll be changing it again soon.

We added a few soft furnishings but we’ve got bigger plans as far as that is concerned in the future.

We brought in some new lighting for our outside area as well.

I'd quite like to add some more décor to the place and rearrange the seating and the pool area.

How have you found running the pub?

It's been really good, I've been pleasantly surprised, everyone has been very lovely, and we've managed to build relationships with the regulars.

I'd say meeting all the new people has been the best bit about taking over actually, plus seeing the food take off!

What sort food do you serve?

We do burgers, which are really popular, fish and chips, pies, small plates, which absolutely fly out of the kitchen.

(Image: The Thornton) We do smash burgers, and chicken burgers, the smash burgers seem to order the most though, we also do pulled spicy beef burgers, bacon and cheese burgers, salt and pepper burgers.

Are customers mostly local?

Mostly locals, we are seeing a lot more new faces but new people come in all the time which is great.

It's lovely it overlooks Rowley Lake, we've got 10 to 12 tables out there, it's very open and very modern with lighting - everyone says it’s the best beer garden in Burnley!
