Heavy rain is set to batter Blackburn, and other parts of East Lancashire, all day today (September 23).

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain, which is in force until midnight tonight.

In Blackburn, the heavy rain is expected to be replaced by cloudy skies from 9pm. A mixture of rain and partial sunshine is forecast for the rest of the week.

There is potential that 30-50 mm of rain could develop in any part of the warning area, much of which could fall in six hours or less.

According to the Met Office, the wet weather could cause some disruption. Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

There is also a warning of possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Properties may also become flooded, causing damage.

Trains and bus services are at risk of being delayed or cancelled.

 

 

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Areas of heavy rain are expected to affect many parts of England and southeast Wales during Monday.

“There is still some uncertainty regarding which areas will be affected by the heaviest rain, but at this stage parts of the south Midlands, southern and southwest England look most likely to see the greatest accumulations.

“However, anywhere within the warning area could have impactful rainfall through the course of Monday.”
