A man has been arrested after an 'explosion' at a house in Burnley.

Police were called to Brunswick Street at around 1.45pm yesterday (September 14) .

Damage included to the downstairs window of  the large property

 Police said there was no ongoing risk to the public.

A large cordon was put in place by police as investigation into the incident got underway.

A man was treated for minor burn injuries at the scene and he has since been arrested on suspicion of producing a controlling drug and criminal damage to a dwelling. He remains in custody.

Enquiries are also ongoing to identify another person who also has suspected minor burn injuries, but who left the scene prior to the police's arrival.

Officers added that a small number of residents have been evacuated  from their properties as a precaution.

The police cordon has been removed as of this morning (September 15) and the window has been boarded up.

A joint investigation between the police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Two fire engines from Burnley and the Urban and Search and Rescue Team from Bamber Bridge and Chorley were called to an explosion on Brunswick Street, Burnley.

"Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and one hose reel, and they rescued one person from the property. A joint police and fire investigation is underway."
