Brotherly love went out of the window when one sibling disturbed the other’s morning lie-in.
Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Jack Green shouted abuse at his brother before attacking him.
When the victim’s girlfriend intervened Green turned on her and made her fear that she was also going to be attacked.
Green, 34, of Lancaster Drive, Clayton-le-Moors, pleaded guilty to assaulting Lewis Green causing him actual bodily harm, and assaulting Megan Dobson.
He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 60 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
Nicola Mills, prosecuting, said Lewis Green had got up at 5.15am to go for his usual walk. He made sure he was quiet and had not disturbed anyone in the house.
When he returned at 6.50am he started to make a drink for him and his partner when Jack started shouting and swearing.
“He tried to calm his brother and told him he needed to stop,” said Miss Mills.
“Instead he came at his brother on the landing and punched him before getting him in a headlock and punching him again.”
Miss Mills said Miss Dobson tried to intervene and Jack Green flew into a “blind rage.”
The aggrieved agreed they had to call the police, and Lewis Green told officers his brother had had issues with his anger all his life.
Following his arrest officers heard Jack Green say: “He woke me up so I punched him.”
Zubair Afzal, in mitigation, said there were noise issues which had been going on for some time.
“My client’s brother goes for a walk early in the morning and the creaking floor boards cause issues,” said Mr Afzal.
“It caused my client stress and a verbal altercation became physical.”
He said a short time after they had hugged and made up but the police were already involved.
“He says they are a normal family and he loves his brother,” said Mr Afzal.
