A dramatic video has emerged after a dog got stuck on a roof in Great Harwood.

The video shows the dog stuck on a roof in Queen Street, at around 11.30am on Friday morning (September 13).

It is understood that the mischievous chap, called Sprout, climbed out of the skylight of the flat above cheese shop Brie Mine.

Thankfully, the dog was not injured and was rescued by the fire service. A video, shared by The Lancashire Dog Company, shows a firefighter calmly picking up the dog and taking him to safety.

Owner of the one-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, Harry Jones, said they had "the scare of their life".

They said: "Sprout is new to me, I have just rescued him. He is a lovely, amazing and kind boy.

“I popped out this morning and he was still asleep. Rather than wake him up I will leave him inside.

“It was a bit hot so I thought I’d leave the window slightly ajar. You couldn’t fit a mouse through the gap in the window.

“While I was out I got a phone call asking if my dog was on the roof. He had pushed his way through the window and went for a sunbathe on the roof.

“I was devastated and felt like the worst dog owner in the world but I have learned my lesson because I had the scare of my life.”

A spokesperson for The Lancashire Dog Company said: “What a rescue on Queen Street this morning!

“Huge well done to Great Harwood Fire and Rescue for getting the little dog to safety.”

Brie Mine, which looked after the dog until its owner returned,  even gave the firefighters cheese taster boards to applaud them for their hard work. They said Sprout was “unfazed” by the whole situation.

A spokesperson for Brie Mine said: “Well little Sprout the dog is a cheeky monkey, climbing out of the skylight of the flat above the shop!

“He’s absolutely fine, totally unfazed by it all. Plus we got to keep him until his owner came, thanks Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, hope you enjoy your cheese taster board for your lunches.”

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "One fire engine and one aerial ladder platform were called to rescue a dog that was stuck on the roof of a two-storey building on Queen Street, Great Harwood .

"Firefighters were called just before 11.30 and were at the scene for approximately 30 minutes."
