Wand-making, potion-crafting, and spell-casting are just a few of the mystical activities planned for October half-term at WWT Martin Mere.

The popular Viking village, Mere Tun, will be transformed into a ‘Witches’ Wetland’ from October 21 until November 3.

The event promises activities suitable for all ages, from toddlers to grandparents.

Visitors can make a wand from willow, learn about wetland plants to make magical potions, and cast spells.

Young witches and wizards can also participate in an owl pellet dissection to learn about the diet of these nocturnal birds of prey.

The event will also feature a fancy dress competition on Halloween, October 31.

Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite magical character for a chance to win a certificate and prize.

A free WWT Martin Mere Spells and Potions logbook, available on arrival, will serve as a guide to all the activities and provide a space to note down spooky spells and potions.

Victoria Fellowes, visitor experience manager at WWT Martin Mere, said: "This October half term we have a bunch of enchanting activities to take part in.

"Whether it’s mixing up mystical concoctions or making your own magical wand for spell casting, we’re bubbling over with activities and here to share how super wetland nature can be."

There will also be a chance to explore the waters on a Canoe ‘Scarefari’ with a guided boat tour or canoe.

October half-term activities are included in the WWT Martin Mere admission ticket or are free to WWT members, except for boat rides and canoe safaris, which incur an additional charge.

The craft room will have a selection of free and paid colouring and crafts.

Pumpkin carving is available for £3.50 per pumpkin.

Half-term activities run from October 21 until November 3.
