The emergency services descended on the M55, in Preston, earlier today (September 12) after a crash.

Traffic was brought to a standstill after a crash between junction three in Wesham and junction two in Preston.

National Highways traffic officers, the fire service and ambulance service were on scene after the incident was reported at around 3pm.

Police say a car left the carriageway and ended up on the grass verge. No injuries were reported.

Traffic has since been released by one lane remains closed. Motorists have been warned to expect delays.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Traffic is held on the M55 eastbound between junction three in Wesham and junction two in Preston due to a traffic collision. National Highways traffic officers, the fire service and ambulance service are on scene. Please expect delays, thank you for your patience.

“Traffic has since been released on the M55 eastbound following an earlier traffic collision. Lane one (of three) remains closed. Please expect delays, thank you for your patience.”

A police spokesperson said: “It was a car leaving the carriageway and ending up on the grass verge. No injuries.”
