Blackburn with Darwen’s crime rate dropped for the first time in more than three months in July, figures show.
Data from police.uk shows there were 1,634 recorded crimes in the borough in July, a drop of around five per cent from the 1,727 crimes recorded in June.
Violence and sexual offences again topped the list but, for the second month running, did record a drop in cases.

Using the data, it’s possible to map exactly where each crime took place in the borough and determine how many instances of each crime there was.
Of the 14 different crimes listed in the data, there were nine decreases and five increases.
Statistically, the biggest increase was in robbery, which went up by more than 50 per cent.
The other offences changed as follows:
- Violence and sexual offences – 595 (June) – 565 (July) – down 5.04 per cent
- Anti-social behaviour – 495 (June) – 439 (July) – down 11.31 per cent
- Criminal damage and arson – 112 (June) – 97 (July) – down 13.39 per cent
- Shoplifting – 104 (June) – 102 (July) – down 1.92 per cent
- Vehicle crime – 103 (June) – 105 (July) – up 1.94 per cent
- Other theft – 80 (June) – 89 (July) – down 6.97 per cent
- Public order – 66 (June) – 89 (July) – up 34.84 per cent
- Burglary – 59 (June) – 44 (July) – down 25.42 per cent
- Other crime – 38 (June) – 45 (July) – up 18.42 per cent
- Drugs – 31 (June) – 28 (July) – down 9.67 per cent
- Weapons – 20 (June) – 17 (July) – down 15 per cent
- Robbery – 9 (June) – 14 (July) – up 55.55 per cent
- Bike theft – 5 (June) – 4 (July) – down 20 per cent
- Theft from person – 4 (June) – 5 (July) – up 25 per cent
Elsewhere in East Lancashire, three other boroughs reported decreases in their crime rate.
The biggest decrease was in Rossendale, which dropped from 627 crimes in June to 585 crimes in July, a decrease of 6.69 per cent
Pendle’s rate also dropped from 882 to 836, down by 5.21 per cent, while Burnley’s dropped by 5.06 per cent from 1,283 crimes to 1,218.
In the Ribble Valley, there was a huge increase of 26.33 per cent, rising from 281 crimes to 355.
Finally, Hyndburn’s crime rate went up from 995 to 1,053, a climb of 5.82 per cent.
