Burnley care home residents have celebrated National Burger Day in style, with residents giving the event “a 10 out of 10.”

Staff took residents at Dove Court Care Court through a burger-making session held by the care home provider’s catering team to mark the fun day last week.

Development chef, Pete Coles, visited the care home on September 4 to host a walkthrough where residents could make and taste a variety of burgers.

Pete said: Visiting Dove Court for National Burger Day was a great experience.

"Residents got fully immersed in the activity and made some delicious food from scratch, which looked and tasted delicious.

“These types of events are very important for our residents to get involved with, as they may have done these types of activities daily before moving into Dove Court.

“There were smiles all around as we sported our burger-themed hats and posed for photos!”

In the morning residents made bread rolls, sauces and burgers and then hosted a game of ‘burger bingo’ in the afternoon.

Residents all made drinks to enjoy afterwards - as what is a burger night without a milkshake to wash it all down?

Nicola Martin, wellbeing coordinator at Dove Court Care Home in Shuttleworth Street, said: “All of our residents really enjoyed the day and would love to do it again.

“Everyone that joined in on the day gave it a 10/10!”

Rubina Parkinson, a resident at Dove Court Care Home said: “I had a lovely day.

"The burgers and the milkshakes were great, and I would like to do the day all over again.”

National Burger Day has taken place on the Thursday before the UK August Bank holiday since 2016 and it was first observed in 2013.
