A man who died in a crash on the M65 on Friday night was identified as a suspect in the death of a woman, police have said.

Officers in Greater Manchester were called to a property in Walnut Avenue, Bury, at around 10.30pm on Friday (September 6) where a woman was found dead, with officers believing she died earlier in the day.

She was identified as Barbara Nomakhosi, 35, and specialist officers are continuing to support her family as work continues to identify the circumstances of her death.

Greater Manchester Police said officers identified a suspect following her death and believe he died in a fatal crash between a HGV and a pedestrian on the same night.

Lancashire Police were called at around 9pm on Friday after a pedestrian was involved in a crash with a HGV and a number of other vehicles on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 5 (Guide) and Junction 6 (Blackburn).

A man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Barbara's family said: "Barbara was a caring and hard-working person. She was so thoughtful and always checking up on her family and friends.

"Barbara loved her family and enjoyed working as a carer. We loved Barbara so much and life will not be the same without her."

Detective chief inspector Mark Davies, from GMP's major incident team, said: "This is a complex investigation which is very much ongoing and we remain in contact with colleagues in Lancashire as they progress their own investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision.

"We are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this tragic incident and I want to reassure residents that there is no wider threat to the community. We will continue to support Barbara's family and will be doing everything we can to help them through this process."
