An iconic pop band from the 90s made a surprise appearance at Radio 2 in the Park in Preston.

The music festival kicked off in style yesterday evening (6 September), with presenters taking to the DJ stage to spin their favourite tunes to more than 3,200 revellers at the festival’s first-ever pre-party.

Scott Mills launched the party with a bang during his Wonder Years set, which featured a surprise personal appearance from B*Witched who burst onto the stage as Scott played their song C’est La Vie to shocked and delighted cheers from the audience. Rylan Clark even got in on the action and joined them on stage for a dance.

Scott’s set was followed by Sara Cox’s Wower Hour, then DJ Spoony’s Good Groove, and next Rylan’s Rybiza Anthems, who all blasted out their favourite tune to festival-goers. Vernon Kay wrapped up the night with his Dance Sounds of the 90s’ set, which also featured a guest appearance from singer-songwriter Angie Brown.

Today (7 September), Travis kicked-off Saturday’s festival with a bang with a set featuring a full brass band ensemble cover of Aztec Camera’s Somewhere In My Heart.

Shaznay Lewis, Pixie Lott, Craig David, Kim Wilde, Snow Patrol and Sugababes will all perform today, with Sting headlining the evening, which will also be broadcast on BBC Two at 10:15pm tonight.

As well as BBC Introducing artists on the main stage and playing sets in the DJ tent, Radio 2 presenters will be broadcasting live from an on-site studio at Moor Park - which looks out onto thousands of revellers across the weekend. Shows and sets available will be available live and on demand on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer across the weekend and for 30 days afterwards.

Radio 2 in the Park runs from Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 8 in Moor Park. Tickets still available for Sunday at www.bbc.co.uk/radio2inthepark. Watch the performances on BBC iPlayer and listen on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds. Sting’s headline set is on BBC Two on Saturday at 10.15pm and Pet Shop Boys headline set is on BBC Two on Sunday at 10pm.
