Untaxed cars have been seized from Burnley as part of a police operation.

On Friday (September 6), officers descended on the Daneshouse and Stoneyholme areas to address concerns raised by the local community, of untaxed cars parked on streets.

Vehicles were left ‘for weeks’ without tax and residents complained about the streets becoming overcrowded with vehicles that were damaged or were being used for anti-social behaviour.

With the help of the DVLA, 15 vehicles were recovered. All were untaxed.

Officers have warned that this operation will be conducted again in the near future.

A police spokesperson said: “Today, officers from the Burnley Neighbourhood Policing team, the DVLA and Burnley Council have been in the area of Daneshouse with Stoneyholme addressing concerns raised by the local community, of vehicles being parked on the highway with no tax.

“Concerns raised were around vehicles being left in situ for weeks without tax and residential streets becoming overcrowded with vehicles that are damaged or being used for ASB.

"With the assistance of the DVLA 15 vehicles were recovered, all with no tax.

“This operation will be conducted again in the near future. Please ensure that your vehicles have been correctly taxed if they are being parked on the road.

“If this is an issue which you encounter, please let us know and we can look at another location for the next operation.”
