A talented footballer who has battled physical injuries and mental demons during the 'toughest year of his life' is excited to get back on the pitch.
Former Burnley FC youth player Muhammad Abdur Rahman has joined Coppull United as he looks to rebuild his career following health setbacks in the past year.
Coppull play in the West Lancashire League Premier division and defender Rahman said he was delighted to be playing again.
A health setback in February 2023 sidelined him for 12 months, a period which he describes as ‘one of the most difficult moments in his life’.
Rochdale-born Rahman faced a gruelling mental and physical battle to regain his fitness and rediscover his passion for the game.
Abdur Rahman said: “The 12 months I spent out of action were undoubtedly one of the most challenging periods of my life.
“I had to delve deep within myself and discover strengths I never knew I had. It was a tough process, but I persevered, determined to rebuild and start again.
“Coppull United FC is a fantastic club with a great reputation. I'm honoured to have the opportunity to play for them and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead."
Rahman's love for football began at the age of seven. However, he says a turning point came when he was selected for the top six of his school football team to attend a trial for Rochdale AFC's under-13s in 2015.
After a successful trial process, Abdur Rahman joined Burnley FC’s youth team in 2018 and enjoyed success in the youth ranks, where he quickly established himself as a key player in their under-16 and under-19 squads.
Over the course of his time with the Clarets, the strong defender amassed 47 appearances at youth level, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
He also clinched both the Performance of the Season and Player of the Month awards while at the Turf Moor club.
Rahman previously participated in Jack Wilshere's NCF Elites London, and has also represented Euxton Villa FC, Route One Rovers and Bolton County.
