Officers have seized a quad bike in Burnley after complaints from members of the public.

Police said the bike was confiscated in the Daneshouse with Stoneyholme area this evening.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers were passed information by members of the public about the use of off road bikes and a quad bike being driven in the area.

"Officers established that the quad bike was not road legal and so it was recovered to our secure impound.

"Off-road bikes can be used on private land, with the landowner’s permission.

"Both quad bikes and motorbikes must conform to the Road Vehicles (construction and use) Regulations 1986 and such bikes must be approved, registered, taxed and have an MOT (if needed) and insurance to be used on the road or in a public place.

"We again would like to thank the members of the public who provided information regarding the location and use of the off road vehicles this evening. More information from our communities is needed in order to tackle this issue.

"If you have any information regarding where these vehicles are being kept, the riders or the locations where the bikes are being used, please report this on 101."
