Residents in one of Blackburn’s most sought-after streets have spoken out over abandoned vehicles which have been described as an ‘eyesore’.

The truck is parked at the entrance to a property on the corner of Livesey Branch Road and Coverdale Drive.

A Mercedes pickup truck has a Ford Fiesta parked on the back.

On inspection, the Fiesta has bags of rice, pasta and other food on both the front and back seats. The doors to both vehicles are open, whilst another abandoned seven-seater lies behind a hedge.

Residents said 'nothing could be done' as the land was private property.

Blackburn with Darwen Council have revealed they had attempted to find the owners of the property but to no avail. The property is believed to have been repossessed.

Following contact by the Lancashire Telegraph, a finance company says it will be taking action and 'apologised' to homeowners.

One resident who lives nearby but did not wish to be named said: “It has been like this for a few months and nobody seems to know what to do.

“The car on the back of the lorry is packed with rice and pasta for some reason.

“It is an eyesore and is attracting vermin.

“All the doors are open to both vehicles and the front of the bonnet has been lifted.

“We have complained and tried to go through the right channels but nothing has been done.”

The resident said the property was vacated following incidents of anti-social behaviour.

The truck is the first thing you see as you turn onto the street

Coverdale Drive is made up of detached and semi-detached homes each with well-kept front gardens.

Another resident said: “This is lovely area as you can see and take a walk around.

“It does not look like anyone is taking responsibility for this.”

Blackburn with Darwen Council said it had attempted to take immediate action after concerns were raised.

Strategic Director of Environment and Communities said Martin Eden: “As the property is vacant, we are limited in what action we can take.

"Our environmental crime team has previously visited the property in response to residents’ concerns about the car on the transporter attracting vermin.

“However, as the windows are rolled up and the doors are shut, the material is contained inside the car. Even if we were able to find evidence of waste attracting vermin, as there is no landowner present, there is nobody to serve the notice to.

“Our highways team have investigated serving a notice for marginal obstruction to the footway however, again, as there is no landowner present this will have no effect.”

The council said their planning enforcement team had contacted Together Money and affiliated companies which had repossessed the property.

Together Money this week apologised to residents and said they were aware of the issues at the site.

A spokesperson for Together Money said: “We are aware of the issue regarding the vehicle left abandoned at the property on Livesey Branch Road in Blackburn, and we are currently in communication with the council to rectify the situation.

“We understand the distress this may have caused local residents, and would like to reassure them that we are working towards getting the vehicle removed.”
