A historic pool has reopened to the public after a £600,000 refurbishment.

Brinscall Pool, which is more than 100 years old, is introducing a phased reopening following an investment by Chorley Council.

Instructor-led sessions such as school swimming, learn-to-swim programmes, clubs and aqua aerobics are currently available with public lane swim, aqua and family swim planned for the October half-term.

Extensive upgrades, in harmony with the site's historic character, have been made to the pool's structure and poolside facilities.

Restorations include retiled pool and poolside, refreshed cubicles, new shower and WC facilities, along with new LED lighting and air handling units.

The entrance and reception area have also been updated.

Cllr Bev Murray, executive cabinet member for early intervention at Chorley Council, said: "We are committed to ensuring that everyone in Chorley can have access to quality and affordable leisure facilities.

"In a climate where other local authorities are choosing to close their facilities, we are proud to have been able to make significant investments into the historic landmark ensuring it can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come."

Chorley Council recently conducted a consultation for community feedback regarding public access to Brinscall Swimming Pool and suggested developments to the beach area of the main pool at All Seasons Leisure Centre.

Cllr Murray added: "It’s an exciting time for our leisure centre offer.

"We have ambitious investment plans and it’s so important for us to make sure we listen to the views of our members and the wider community to make sure we are providing quality facilities that meet the need of those across Chorley.

"All views will now be considered and will inform our future decisions for our leisure facilities and our continued investments."
