Glorious weather greeted picnic-goers at a special event in a Blackburn park.

Charity IMO hosted ‘Picnic in the Park’ at Queen's Park which aimed to bring together a thousand people from different communities.

The event featured wall climbing, face painting, creative arts and interactive workshops and demonstrations.

IMO is due to set up its new location at Audley and Queen's Park Neighbourhood Learning Centre in the coming year and staff were keen to speak to families.

The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Brian Taylor said he was delighted with how the charity had helped to transform the local park.

He said: “For many years, Queen's Park was something of a 'Cinderella' park, but thanks to the efforts of IMO and the local residents, it has been transformed into a beautiful and vibrant space.

“Events like this, which engage children and young people in positive activities are tremendously beneficial for the entire borough."

He added: “IMO’s work with young people is truly transformative. By steering them away from potential harm and toward positive experiences, IMO is helping them build a foundation for a brighter future.

“This work not only enriches their lives but also encourages them to think about education, employment and life as a whole.”

Head of Programmes at IMO Charity, Mark Lawes said, "Our mission has always been to put the community at the heart of everything we do.

“Today’s event was a perfect example of that—bringing people together, raising awareness about our services and ensuring that everyone in the area knows we are here to support them.

“The ideas and feedback we have received from the community are invaluable and will help shape our future work and the vision for our new home."

One resident who attended the picnic with his family said: “My kids are loving the event today. They have learned how to do some looming and thread making and we have had some henna done.

“My son is currently over there playing the ukulele with the instruments they have, so we have got a lot to explore and we are looking forward to spending the day and having a picnic here.”
