A Blackburn bakery where the staff are “absolutely crackers” has been nominated for the Lancashire Telegraph’s Best Bakery 2024.
Becky’s Bakery, in Whalley New Road, was opened in January 2023 by Becky Hobkirk after she found a passion for the industry while working at Woods Craft Bakery in Brownhill.
Having always wanted to own her own business she jumped at the opportunity when the Wild Flour bakery was made available.
Becky said: “We did not expect it at all, and it was a shock to us. It is good to know people think so highly of us.
“It is a difficult job, you are never standing around doing nothing and I am so glad that people have noticed and they like our food.
"Becoming finalists and winning these awards would be amazing in such a short space of time.
“We have such a good team at the bakery everybody puts in 110 per cent and it would mean so much to show the team that they do such a good job, and everyone can see that.”
The stand-out cakes on offer at Becky's Bakery include a Lotus Biscoff flapjack and almond slices, as well as a vast selection of hot sandwiches with the Tex Mex beef and turkey and chorizo becoming a staple for customers.
After the rise of Spud Bros, a social media page which pays homage to the humble potato, Becky has been doing incredibly well with jacket potato dishes.
She employs a staff of eight people who all share her passion and thrive from meeting new people every day.
Becky added: “We are absolutely crackers here. We always say you don’t have to be crazy to work here but it does help.
“Even though my name is above the door we are still on the same level, and we all work together as a team.”

Like many businesses throughout the country, Becky’s has struggled with the cost-of-living crisis and the rising costs associated.
Becky said: “It has not been easy sailing, but we have managed.
“If it wasn’t for our customers, we wouldn’t have managed so that everybody who comes into the shop means we have been able to trade for as long as we have and if it wasn’t for our customers we wouldn’t be here.”
Further finalists in the ‘Best Bakery 2024’ competition will be profiled in the coming days. Readers can vote by picking up copies of the Lancashire Telegraph until Saturday, September 14, with the winner announced the week commencing September 23.
