A man has been arrested and traffic has been released on the M6 near Lancaster following an incident.

Traffic had been stopped in both directions between Junction 34 Lancaster and Junction 33.

National Highways said there were delays of around 30 minutes approaching the incident in both directions.

Traffic has now been released on the section of the motorway but delays of up to 60 minutes were being reported.

Lancashire Police say a 36-year-old man from Preston has been arrested as part of an investigation into the Unauthorised Taking of a Motor Vehicle.

It comes as the drivers were experiencing long queues at Junction 28 at Leyland following a major crash on Friday afternoon.

Emergency teams were still working to repair the central barrier on the carriageway and some lanes remained closed on both sides.

The crash involved a lorry, a campervan and car and seven people were injured.
