A video shows the dramatic moment a police officer rescued a woman who found herself in difficulty, in Blackpool.
At the annual Ride the Lights event, which took place on August 27, officers were on patrol to make sure people were enjoying the event safely.
PC Nelson was speaking to members of the public when his attention was brought to a woman who fell down to the sea, after slipping off the sea defence walls. This tide had just started to come in rapidly.
PC Nelson, and colleagues sergeant Higgs, PC Dixon and PC Walker, ran to help her and threw a life ring out in order to pull her to safety.
The lady was “shaken” and received medical attention.
A police spokesperson said: “While the lady was shaken, she received medical attention and has now made a full recovery thanks to PC Nelson’s incredibly swift actions, which just go to show that our officers have to be ready to attend to any kind of emergency at all times.
“Think you’re up to the job? Why not sign up to our job alerts and you’ll be the first to know when we’re accepting new officers who make a difference every day.”
