The Post Office has apologised over ongoing staff shortages at an East Lancashire branch.

The branch in Todmorden Road, Burnley, has been experiencing ongoing staff shortages leading to sporadic closures, even at times when it is scheduled to be open.

The branch already runs on reduced hours, scheduled to be 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Thursday.

However, residents have complained that there seems to be no consistency with these opening times.

One person said when they attempted to send a parcel from the branch shortly before midday on Wednesday (August 28) it was shut.

However, when they walked past the same branch the next day at around 1.30pm, it was open again.

A Post Office spokesperson said they are "working hard" to restore the branch to full-time hours soon.

They said: "Todmorden Road Post Office has unfortunately been experiencing ongoing staff shortages.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the reduced opening hours.

"We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are working to restore a full-time branch soon."

They added other branches in Burnley are available at Hebrew Road, Pike Hill, and Williams Road.

A counter is also available at the back of the WH Smiths store in the Charter Walk Shopping Centre.
