A team made up of under 18s and under 23s' strongest players from across Lancashire has qualified for the ‘Ultimate County shootout’ against other counties in England.

They participated in a 45-minute game in Wigan, their home venue, against West Yorkshire.

The players come from across Lancashire, including Oswaldtwistle, Burnley, Preston, Leyland, and Kirkham, and also hold practice sessions at Sandygate Sports Bar in Burnley.

As the teams drew when the time had finished, no one qualified, and it then went to a six-red shoot out.

This is where two players from each team pot as many red balls as fast as they can, determining the winner. The Lancashire Ultimate pool junior team won by 0.4 seconds.

James Jackson, manager of the Under 23s and Under 18s, said: “It was a very tense moment with parents and players all celebrating when we had qualified.”

Mr Jackson added: “To be 3-1 down to come back and win was a special moment as a manager and seeing the team celebrate. As a team we try to train once a month however the lads are playing three to four times a week in local competitions.

“We have a very strong team with our youngest player being just 11 years old. We have three current England players within the team. Josh Traynor is the current Under 23s World Champion, Charlie Woan Under 18s England Player and Eli Jackson Under 15s EnglandpPlayer.”

There are nine players in the qualifying team playing this weekend in the televised event, available to watch on Ultimate Pool TV. The players include Josh Traynor, Jack Beavan, Jack Crank, Dave Grice, Charlie Woan, Eli Jackson, Zac Oldfield, Harvey Southworth and Jayden Borg.

It launched today with the group stages, which will continue tomorrow, with the final being held on Sunday.
