A Blackburn couple who married 60 years ago have been congratulated by the King on their diamond anniversary.
Harry and Dylis Ellison, who tied the knot in August 1964, were surrounded by family as they marked the special occasion with a celebratory glass of fizz at their home.
Reflecting on their life spent together, Harry shared the secret to a happy marriage was down to mutual patience and understanding.
Harry said: “The secret has just been the patience from both of us.
"It has been very good – we have our ups and downs just like every other couple.”
The couple, both aged 83, who have two daughters, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, first met at Saturday night dance classes at King George’s Hall, in Northgate, Blackburn.
What began as a friendship quickly blossomed into a lifelong partnership and they have stayed in the area for the duration of their marriage.
The Ellisons both worked in the community, Harry as an electrician and Dylis as a clerical assistant for the NHS, before retiring.
Receiving their congratulatory card from King Charles was a particularly special moment for the couple, and is an item Harry said they will both "cherish".
The King and Queen send messages to those celebrating milestone birthdays and wedding anniversaries, including 60, 65, and 70 years of marriage.
Harry said: “We are very pleased to receive the card from the King.”
The couple celebrated their milestone on August 22, with family members joining them for the occasion.
Festivities continued over the weekend with a meal at the Traders Arms in Mellor, Blackburn.
When asked about their happiest moments together, Harry recalled the births of their two daughters, which remains the best days of their lives.
Now retired, the couple enjoys spending time together, exploring local walks, and taking in the beautiful scenery of East Lancashire and spending time with family.
