The RSPCA has launched an investigation after two kittens were found dead with horrendous injuries in Leyland.
Described as a ‘horrific death’, x-rays show that the kittens had suffered severe blunt force trauma, consistent with being thrown against a wall.
They had snapped necks and damaged skulls when they were discovered by a member of the public in the middle of the busy Seven Star Road at 8.45am on Tuesday, August 20.
RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Adam Wormwell, who has carried out enquiries in the local area said: “It seems someone has deliberately ended the lives of these two young kittens by inflicting the most appalling violence on them and we are appealing to anyone who saw what happened or has information that could help our investigation to come forward.
“Unfortunately neither kitten was microchipped, so we don’t know who they belonged to or where they might have come from.”
They were discovered covered in blood with missing eyes and head trauma by a member of the public who immediately took them to a vet, who alerted the animal welfare charity.
The vet said it was his opinion that the injuries had been caused deliberately and not as a result of the kittens having been involved in a road traffic accident or attacked by another animal.
Adam said: “It’s a horrific incident which has greatly upset everyone involved, and I’d particularly like to thank the kind member of the public who found them and took what action they could.”
Investigations by the RSPCA into the death of the two kittens, one black one brown, are still ongoing.
The RSPCA are appealing to people who live locally to check for potential CCTV and Ring doorbell footage.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the RSPCA’s appeals line, in confidence, on 0300 123 8018 quoting incident number 01334778.
