The principal at one of Rossendale’s most historic schools has commended the “hard work and dedication” of its pupils after an exceptional results day.
Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School received almost double the national average in pass rate for English and Maths.James Johnstone, principal at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, said: "Our pupils continue to do themselves, and our school, very proud and we are delighted to share in their successes.
“The outstanding achievements of our pupils in their GCSE results is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and the exceptional efforts of their parents, teachers and the entire school community.
“We wish our Class of 2024 all the best as they move forward into the next exciting chapter of their lives, and look forward to many of them embarking on their sixth form studies with us in September."
They witnessed 96 percent of students achieving grades 5-9 in English and Maths in addition to a number of star pupils achieving exceptional results.
Chloe Smith achieved nine grade 9s and one grade 8 and will continue her studies in the Sixth Form at the school – studying an A level in Maths, Further Maths, German and Physics.
Adam Ahmen will join Chloe in the Sixth Form where he hopes to study A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology after achieving seven grade 9s and three grade 8s.
After earning seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7 in his GCSEs, pupil George Holt plans to complete his A level at Rochdale College.
Both Sophie Whitham and Caitlin McGrath achieved nine grade 9s and one grade 8 and plan to remain at the school to complete their A Level studies.
Sophie will study Maths, English Literature, History and Chemistry, while Caitlin will undertake A Levels in Biology, Maths, German and English Literature.
The school joined the values-based organisation Star Academies at the start of the academic year which works to improve the life chances of young people in area of social and economic deprivation to help them succeed at the highest level.
