The hard work of students at three Darwen schools has been commended by a senior teaching staff.

Around 470 students across Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio School (DAES), Darwen Aldridge Community Academy (DACA) and Darwen Vale High School picked up their results on Thursday.

At the Studio school, there were strong results in graphics (93 per cent grade 4+, photography (88 per cent grade 4+), English and maths.

In graphics, more than half of the students achieved grade 7 and above. In English language, there was a 16 per cent increase in grade 4 and above and a six per cent increase in students achieving both English and maths.

The Studio school places a focus on supporting students in developing employability skills through "real-world" learning, as well as opportunities for engaging with local businesses.

Eva R, achieved two distinction grades in childcare and health and social care and three grade 7s in English language, English literature and citizenship.

Abigail B, achieved two grade 9s in graphics and photography, two grade 8s in English language and maths, two grade 7s in English literature and science

Charlotte L, achieved grade 9 in photography, grade 8 in graphics, two grade 7s in both English language and maths.

Principal at Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio School, Julie Green said: “We are tremendously proud of our students for their well-deserved results today - they highlight the resilience and hard work of our Year11 students, as well as the dedication of our teaching and support staff.

“Our whole school community is excited and eager to see what our students go on to achieve in the future.

"We know with the skills, experiences and opportunities they’ve had to date, that they are well set up to excel in their chosen next steps - whether that’s staying on at Studio for BTECs, T-Levels or A-Levels, or moving on the college, apprenticeships or the world of work .”

Meanwhile, at DACA, the Academy said it focuses on an "education that provides a diverse range of opportunities for every student to help them prepare for their successful next steps".

Some of the top-performing pupils were:

  • Ailsa F, who achieved seven x grade 9s, and two grade 8s.
  • Oliver T, who gained two grade 9s,two grade 8s,three grade 7s and one grade 6.
  • Bethany W, who achieved five grade 8s and four grade 7s
  • Daniella C, who achieved one grade 9, four grade 8s, one grade 6 and three grade 5s.
  • Keira O'K - two grade 9s,three grade 8s,two grade 7s, a grade 6 and a grade 5.
  • And Aimee J – Distinction Level 2, a Merit Level 2, a grade 8, a grade 7,two grade 6s and 2 grade 5s.

Principal at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, Claire Bailey said: "We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that our students have put in throughout their time here.

They have been supported every step of the way by a dedicated staff team that has fostered an environment where they can succeed.

"It has been such a wonderful day celebrating our Year 11 students’ fantastic results.

"Their grit and determination in preparing for their exams are evident in their achievements, and the whole school is immensely proud of them.
