Pupils at St Wilfrid's C of E Academy have spoken of their hopes for the future on GSCE Results Day.

The school is based off Bank Top in Blackburn and some of the highest achievers at the school said they were proud of their achievements.

Parents and family members joined pupils at the school on Thursday.

Isabelle picked up 9s and 8s in all her grades.

She said: “I was really nervous coming into the hall this morning. It’s more the past few days I have thought about it more and got nervous.

"I will probably go out with my friends to celebrate then travel to see my family. I am going to St Wilfrid’s Sixth Form in September.”

Ammarah, who gained six 9s, said: “I was really happy at first, I had to wait a while for my friend to come so we could open it together. All I wanted to do was see if my hard work was all worth it.”

Dean, received 9s in four subjects including triple science and 8s in a further four subjects.

He said: “When I first got nervous because I thought what if I don’t do as good or the grade boundaries are higher but when you open them you just feel like a weight has been lifted of you, I am so happy”

“I am going on a two-year scholarship to China where you study A levels, I am so excited I have the opportunity to go and study there. I will be studying maths, further maths, business and economics.”

Stephen said: “Looking back I did quite a lot of revision and I definitely did enough with my results. I want to come to Sixth Form to study business.”

Angel excelled in her results.

Her mum Shingi Chaparadza said: “I am very excited, the wait is over, and she has done amazing. She really worked hard, and I’m really pleased.

“The relief for now is over but she is going to Sixth Form, so we are going to keep pushing and she has to continue studying hard.”

Josie added: “I have done really good and I am really proud of myself. I did better than I thought I would, in September I’m thinking of going to Cardinal Newman college.”

The academy said it had increased the numbers of pupils attaining the highest grades with 27 per cent of Year 11 achieving grades 9-7 at GCSE.

Principal, Mrs V. Michael said "We are extremely proud of all that our students have achieved and look forward to welcoming so many of them back to the Academy as Sixth Form students.

"This morning has been a lovely event, and the staff have enjoyed sharing the excitement and joy of the students."
