A 70-bed care home is set to come to Clitheroe after plans were approved by the council.

The development by Muller Property Group has been proposed for a site in Pendle Road which received outline planning permission last year.

The site, which is around half a mile from Clitheroe town centre, is currently used as a discount furniture store and warehouse.

Proposals for the home include a café/bar and a cinema on the ground floor, which will also feature a private dining area, a reception and offices.

On the first floor, there will be space for various functions for residents, changing rooms, a meeting/staff room and further ancillary features.

In total there are 75 rooms planned for the home, spread across the ground and first floors.

A design and access statement submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council said: “The massing of the proposed building has been created to reflect the surrounding residential dwellings and is mindful of the existing building that is currently located on-site.

“The layout of the building allows glimpsed views through the development from the public realm on Pendle Road to the main building form and central areas of landscaping.

“The proposed development is of high quality in terms of layout, form and appearance, and will make a positive contribution to the character of the area.

“The development proposes a new access road into the site from Pendle Road and service/delivery access direct from Pendle Road.”

The proposal also includes plans for 28 car parking spaces, two of which will be disabled spaces; two double EV charging points; and cycle storage for up to 10 bikes for staff and visitors.
