A temporary banking hub has opened in Great Harwood.

Cash Access UK, an organisation aimed at protecting access to cash, has opened the temporary banking hub in Great Harwood at Bank Mill House.

The hub will be open five days a week until a permanent banking hub is opened.

It will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions.

There will also be a community banker service where customers can discuss more complicated issues with their bank.

Bank staff will be present on the following days: NatWest on Mondays, Halifax on Tuesdays, Santander on Wednesdays, Barclays on Thursdays, and Lloyds on Fridays.

Cllr Noordad Aziz, joint deputy leader of the council and a Great Harwood councillor, said: "The temporary banking hub in Great Harwood is a welcome addition to the town’s high street.

"These hubs offer easy access to face-to-face banking services, which several residents - especially our elderly - have previously raised as a concern to us, and we look forward to seeing the development of the hub in coming months."

The search for a permanent home for the banking hub is still ongoing.

Updates will be provided in the coming months.

The temporary banking hub will be the second one in Lancashire, following Barnoldswick.

Three more hubs are planned for Darwen, Bacup, and Kirkham.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK, said: "Following the opening of the new temporary banking hub in Great Harwood today, I am delighted to say that local residents can now enjoy access to cash and face-to-face banking services once again.

"We are working hard to secure a permanent home for the hub and will provide an update to the community soon."
