A dispersal order was in force across Rawtenstall last night (August 20) after large groups of youths were reported to be wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons.
It was reported that a person was assaulted.
The dispersal order, which was in place until midnight, covered all of Rawtenstall town centre as well as the Tesco, Asda and New Hall Hey Retail Park.
The order gave officers the power to move antisocial groups away from the area.
A police spokesperson said: “We have received information to suggest that large groups of youths are wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons in Rawtenstall town centre and have assaulted someone, which has now been resolved.
“We are doing everything in our power to stop further incidents. With that in mind, a Section 34 dispersal order has been put in place to prevent disorder and allow other members of the community to enjoy the area without any issue.
“This order runs until midnight.
“The area covered by the order is shown in the map and incorporates all of Rawtenstall town centre, as well as the Tesco, Asda and New Hall Hey Retail Park.”
