Former Accrington Stanley Women's footballer Sanah Mehdi helped Karachi City to the Pakistan National Womens Football Championships.

The final, held at the Jinnah National Stadium Islamabad, saw Karachi overcome Islamabad Legacy FC 4-0, with Sanah scoring a fabulous second goal from the edge of the area.

The game was aired on Pakistani TV and watched by millions of fans.

Sanah, a former student at Nelson Colne College and Lancaster University, was invited by Karachi City to showcase her skills in the national competition.

Born and raised in Burnley, Sanah, whose parents are of Pakistani heritage, was eligible to participate in the top cup competition in Pakistan.

She started her playing career at the age of 12 for Burnley Girls and spent the last two years with Accrington Stanley Women.

This year she has signed for Chorley Women who play in the FA National League.

Sannah was Accrington Stanley for two years

She said: “It was an amazing experience to play in the Jinnah Stadium and win the National Trophy.  It is the Pakistan equivalent to the FA Cup.

“To score a goal in the final was fantastic. The conditions in Pakistan were different to what I am used to here in the UK but thankfully we managed to pull through.

"To be now selected for the training camp of The Pakistan National Team is an honour and I am looking forward to giving my all.”

Her performances have not gone unnoticed and she has now been selected to participate in the Pakistan National Team training camp in preparation for the South Asian Football Federation Women’s Championship 2024 to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal.
