The Amazing Accrington Soapbox Challenge is set for Saturday, August 24 from 10am to 3pm.

This beloved Bank Holiday weekend race sees businesses and individuals vying for the Soapbox Champion title on Blackburn Road.

BBC Radio Lancashire's Graham Liver, an avid supporter who has taken part in the previous two races, is set to compete this year too.

The thrilling course features a two-level height ramp at the starting line, and a 170-metre long track riddled with surprises such as jumps, chicanes, and water pistols.

This year's event is Back To The Future-themed, with a chance to see and snap pictures with the iconic Delorean car.

In addition to the race, attendees will be joining in celebrating Ukraine's 33rd Independence Day with plenty of festivities, including an outstanding dance troupe, special flags for spectators to wave, and a Ukrainian-themed cart.

Attendees can also enjoy delicious Ukrainian food.

Graham said: "We've had a fantastic time at the last two Soapbox Challenges and our custom-built carts have been really spectacular.

"I'm looking forward to racing against Parin this year, and seeing what changes have been made to the track!"

Accrington & Rossendale College Centre principal, Leyanne Fitzmaurice, added: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the Soapbox Challenge once again this year, it is one of the best events of the year.

"People come out in their thousands for what is just an incredible day of excitement, entertainment, and great community spirit."

Soapbox Challenge entry fees will be donated to charity Maundy Relief, with more than £8,000 raised since the inaugural event in 2018.

A spokesperson from Hyndburn Borough Council, said: "The Soapbox was named as a finalist in the large event of the year category at last year's Lancashire Tourism Awards, and you can see why. It really is a tremendous event.

"Not only do we get to see fast and ferocious racing, but the event also brings all areas of the community together to enjoy themselves and to #ShopLocal around town."
