CTD Tiles will close its Blackpool and Preston branches amid a national closing of 56 stores as the company falls into administration.

Administrators of the business said that 268 workers would be made redundant after the collapse, whilst 30 of its shops and two distributions sites were bought by rival Topps Group.

Their Blackpool store is based in Little Carleton on Mowbray Drive, off Blackpool Old Road, and the Preston branch is at Deepdale Shopping Park.

Other North West stores set for closure include Bolton and Rochdale.

Acquired by former Body Shop owner Aurelius in 2022, CTD supplies ceramic tiles to commercial and residential customers.

They ran 86 stores across the UK and employed 425 staff but fell into insolvency on Monday, August 19.

Sites across the UK included trade and retail showrooms and recorded roughly £75million in revenues for the past year.

James Lumb, managing director at Interpath Advisory and joint administrator of CTD Tiles said: “CTD Tiles is a major player in the industry, but market conditions proved insurmountable as consumer and trade demand failed to recover in line with expectations.

“The transaction with Topps Group provides continuity for a considerable number of staff and stores as part of a major tiles group.

“We are working with the team to ensure a smooth transition for customers and suppliers.

“Regrettably, the remaining sites have closed, which has resulted in redundancies.

“We are now focused on supporting those staff and have specialist teams on site working with impacted employees to help make representations to the Redundancy Payments Service where relevant.”

The revenue slump came because of a decline being felt throughout the industry with other players in the tile sector also experiencing financial and trading difficulties.
