A banned driver who sped off from police in Blackburn is beginning a fresh prison sentence.

Dash cam footage captured a number of 'dangerous' manoeuvres attempted by Saif Ghalib as he tried to evade officers.

Ghalib, 25, of Willows Lane, Blackburn, later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without disqualified and having no insurance when he appeared before the town's magistrates court earlier this year.

He was committed for sentence by magistrates to be dealt with at Preston Crown Court, where he was jailed for 14 months by Judge Daniel Prowse. A three year and three month driving ban was also imposed.

Scott Parker, prosecuting, told the magistrates at the earlier hearing police initially came up behind the Renault Megane driven by the defendant on Audley Range.

He sped off and the pursuit continued along Crossfield Street before ending on Haredon Brook Close.

"There were a number of dangerous manoeuvres including overtaking in situations which forced other vehicles to stop or take evasive action," said Mr Parker.

"He eventually drove down Haredon Brook Close where he got stuck between two gateposts and was seen to climb into the back of the car.

Ghalib was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced after the court heard he had been jailed for 12 months in 2022 for dangerous driving.

Arshad Mahmood, defending, said: "He simply panicked because he knew he was disqualified and he apologises for what he has done."
