A cricket player suffered a serious head injury following an on-field collision with a teammate while fielding.

The game between Baxenden and Whalley was brought to a halt on Saturday during the incident, which saw Baxenden fielder Adam Masood clash heads with wicketkeeper Ben Ross.

Players rushed to help the stricken player, with Masood seen surrounded by concerned teammates.

Ambulance teams were called and Masood was said to have suffered a head injury.

A Baxenden Cricket Club spokesperson said: “Sending our best wishes to our player Adam Masood who suffered a serious head injury today (Saturday) which resulted in the game being abandoned.

“Get well soon Adam.”

The first team North West Cricket League game was being played at the home of Baxenden at Back Lane.

The North West Cricket League posted: “Hope you're better soon Adam.”

Supporters and fans have also sent their best wishes to Adam.

One posted: “Hope Adam makes a full and fast recovery.”

Another added: “Hope all is well, saw the ambulance arrive earlier. Fingers crossed Adam is OK.”
