Two men wrestled with a security officer who tried to stop them stealing from his store.

Blackburn magistrates heard Shaun Clark was in breach of a criminal behaviour order (CBO) by entering the Dunelm store.

Clark, 33, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to breach of a CBO, theft of bedding sets worth £330 from Dunelm, theft of bedding sets worth £124 from TK Max and assaulting Khalid Adnan.

He was committed in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.

Rachel Evans, prosecuting, said Mr Adnan had challenged Clark as he and another man tried to leave the store with a quantity of bedding.

As he tried to recover the property both men wrestled with him and Clark grabbed him round the neck.

She said Clark had been recalled on prison licence.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said following his release from prison Clerk had been placed in accommodation in Birkenhead where a number of sex offenders were placed.

“He found that whenever he left the property he was being targeted by others who thought he was in that category,” said Mr Taylor.

“He came back to Blackburn and started to drink and these offences were committed.”

Mr Taylor said while he was in prison the defendant’s mother had died.

“He came out determined to rebuild his life but he has not had the best of starts,” said Mr Taylor.
