Clitheroe Castle is set to host a family-friendly 'Day of Knights' event this weekend.

Organised by the Silver School of Arms, a European martial arts group, the free event will take place on Saturday, August 17, and immerse visitors in the world of medieval chivalry.

Attendees will have the chance to meet experts and see various styles of replica medieval armour.

This will be showcased in historically accurate costumes, using authentic historical moves, according to the event organisers.

Claire Sutton, Clitheroe Castle Museum manager, said: "This will be a brilliant event for families which involves a free family day out and an opportunity to experience the world of medieval chivalry first hand.

"It's also in the beautiful and historic setting of Clitheroe Castle and promises to be a highly entertaining and informative day out for everyone."

County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "It's fantastic to see Lancashire celebrating part of our history and heritage in such a fun and interactive way.

"Clitheroe Castle is one of the jewels in the crown of Lancashire's medieval heritage, and this event will allow visitors to experience chivalry first hand and see how medieval knights trained and fought.

"We'd urge families and people of all ages to go along and see Silver School of Arms."

The event, running from 11am to 3pm, is free to attend, but normal charges apply for museum gallery admission, and children must be supervised at all times.
