A MAN seen brandishing a knife in Great Harwood town centre made a bizarre comment to people waiting at a bus stop.
Blackburn magistrates heard James Butterworth told an individual that if he did a back flip he would go and stab a bouncer.
He had earlier shown the knife to a group of teenage girls.
Butterworth, 41, of Town Hall Square, Great Harwood, admitted to possession of a knife in a public place.
He was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced after the court heard he had a previous knife possession conviction.
Zulekha Bhutan, prosecuting, said Butterworth was under the influence of alcohol when he showed the knife to a group of teenage girls. He then made the strange comment to people at a bus stop.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client didn’t have a great recollection of the events but accepted he had made a nuisance of himself with the knife.
“It was the first time he had consumed alcohol in a significant period of time and this was the outcome,” said Mr Taylor.
