Nelson and Colne College has been awarded the CyberFirst Gold status for 'delivering excellence in cyber security education'.

The accolade, given by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), recognises the college's high standard of cyber security education.

The Gold award honours the expertise of the college's teachers and the opportunities provided to students for a career in cyber security.

The award also shines a light on the college's work with schools to establish a pathway into the world of cyber careers.

The Gold status is awarded for three years.

The college underwent a rigorous application process that assessed elements such as its commitment towards comprehensive teacher training and its security standards.

Group executive director for strategy and transformation, Morag Davis, said: "We are delighted to achieve the CyberFirst Gold status.

"It evidences our commitment to delivering excellence in cyber security education and to preparing our learners for the exciting career opportunities in cyber, which will be coming to Lancashire with the establishment of the National Cyber Force.

"We are excited to build on these achievements over the next three years, providing even more opportunities and support for our current and future students and employers in the ever-evolving sector of digital technology and cyber security."

The award was given at Old Trafford, with Ms Davis accepting the certificate on the college's behalf.

The college also offers enrichment activities including robotics and international internships, often leading students directly into careers with their internship employers.

The college is gearing up to introduce several 'Industry Innovation Hubs' in the coming academic year, including a digital hub.

These platforms will strengthen the college's ties with businesses in the region, offering students a minimum of 35 hours of work experience with Lancashire enterprises.

In addition to this, the college plans to increase its digital qualifications for different learner categories, including a new T Level in cyber security.
