A man has been charged with rape and threats to kill following a police appeal.

Detectives launched an appeal asked last week to find a man called Christian Lewis over the alleged rape and serious assault of a woman in Burnley.

Lewis was found and arrested over the weekend and has now been charged with a number of alleged offences.

Lewis, 24 of no fixed address, was due to appear before Blackburn Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday, August 12) charged with one count of rape and one of attempted rape, actual bodily harm, threats to kill, strangulation and breach of a notification order.

A police spokesperson said: “We launched an investigation after we were called on Wednesday, August 7 after the [alleged] incident which [allegedly] happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“The [alleged] victim continues to be supported by specially trained officers.

“Thanks to everyone who came forward with information following our appeal.”
