The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms Bury.
The warning will be in place from 2am to 1pm tomorrow (August 12) and also covers the whole of Lancashire and other parts of Greater Manchester.
The stormy weather is due to arrive as temperatures heat up into the evening today (Sunday) with a peak of 25°C expected in the region later today.
Heavy rain, hailstones the size of 20p coins and frequent lightning could all hit the area.
The Met Office said thunderstorms are expected to develop over western parts of the UK and move northeast during Sunday night.
It added: “Although not all parts of the warning area are expected to see them, an area of increasingly organised thunderstorms is likely to produce a combination of frequent lightning, heavy rain, hail and short periods of strong winds.
“Some torrential downpours are likely, with 20mm to 40mm in places, and a potential for 40mm to 60mm of rain to fall in one or two hours very locally, with hail up to two centimetres in diameter.
"Thunderstorms are expected clear towards the northeast by Monday afternoon.”
The weather service also warned road conditions could be impacted along with public transport by high volumes of rain falling in a short space of time.
If you find yourself outside and hear thunder, you should protect yourself by finding a safe enclosed shelter, such as a car.
Do not shelter under or near trees, or other structures which may be struck by lightning.
Currently, the Met Office's forecast for the town doesn't include any thunder and lightning or rain, but this may change.
