The crime rate in Blackburn with Darwen stayed the same in June as it was the previous month, figures show.

Data from police.uk shows there were 1,727 recorded crimes in the borough in June, the same number as in May.

The May figure was an increase of 12.5 per cent from April when there were 1,535 recorded crimes.

Violence and sexual offences topped the list for the sixth month running but did post a slight decrease in the latest figures.

Using the data, it’s possible to map exactly where each crime took place in the borough and determine how many instances of each crime there was.

Of the 14 crimes listed in the data, there were seven decreases, six increases, and one stayed the same.

Statistically, the biggest increase was in shoplifting, which went up by 60 per cent.

  • Robbery – 8 (May) – 9 (June) – up 12.15 per cent

Elsewhere in East Lancashire, two boroughs reported increases in their crime rate while three had decreases.

The biggest increase was in Pendle, which went up by 6.26 per cent from 830 crimes in May to 882 in June.

Burnley went up by 2.80 per cent from 1,248 to 1,283.

The biggest drop was in Rossendale, which went from 699 crimes in May to 627 in June, a decrease of 10.30 per cent.

Hyndburn’s rate dropped by 7.78 per cent from 1,079 in May to 995 in June, while finally in the Ribble Valley the rate dropped by 6.64 per cent from 301 to 281.
