A record-breaking comedy show that has had sell-out runs at Edinburgh's Fringe festival is set to come to Darwen later this year.
A Joke, created by Dan Freeman, who has written for shows including Doctor Who, will play at Darwen Library Theatre in October, fresh off its run in the Scottish capital.
The show had a second sell-out run at Edinburgh Assembly Rooms at the Fringe.
It tells the story of three strangers who appear in the middle of nowhere with no memory of who they are, but soon discover they are an Englishman, and Irishman, and a sort-of Scotsman.
Described as "hilarious and thoughtful", as the characters work out the mystery of their existence it begins to dawn on them they may be the characters in a joke, and ponders the meaning of life while also being packed with rib-tickling one liners.
It was described by the British Theatre Guide as "the gold standard, a don't miss", and the Edinburgh Evening News said it was a "comic masterclass", while the Fringe Review said it was a "privilege to witness".
Following its successful run at the Fringe, the show will embark on a national tour this autumn, with a stop in Darwen at the Library Theatre.
The show will be in Darwen on Thursday, October 17, and tickets costing £19 are available from bwdvenues.com, and are already selling quickly.
